Duran Cobb Born in Lumpkin County, Georgia in 1838. Duran Cobb volunteered for military service July of 1862 in Cobb County, Georgia. Duran served in Company A, Roswell's Battalion, commanded by Captain King. Records show that Rowell's Cavalry Battalion was a local defense troop organized in 1864. They were assigned to Hannon's Brigade, Iverson's Calvary Division and Districts of Georgia and South Carolina. Duran and his company surrendered May 2, 1865 at Camden, South Carolina. The company was paroled two days later, May 4th at Augusta Georgia. >On December 1st, 1864 Duran married Nancy Elmina Smith, the daughter of Benjamin Smith and Sarah Rochester of Anderson County, South Carolina. The children of Duran and Nancy Elmina were Emma (1866), Thomas (1870) Robert Smith (1872), Mary (1876) and Nellie (1879). Duran and Nancy Elmina lived most of their adult lives in the Lindale District of Rome, Georgia where they are buried. The Cobb's are presently re-locating to Alabama.
